A Retrospective of  Prof. CHOU Ying

From June 16 to 21, 2015, Basel Confucius Institute will exhibit selected artworks of Professor CHOU Ying (1922-2011). Born in Fujian, Prof. CHOU was a widely acclaimed print artist and established art educator. During his long and distinguished career, Prof. CHOU devoted himself to both art creation and education. He cultivated and mentored innumerable young talents over and beyond four decades of his teaching career and influenced the development of Taiwan contemporary art.

This exhibition will focus on his highly celebrated work “Ode to Stones” and other early stage prints. Prof. CHOU’s style is unique—a poetic temperament meets an aspiration for melodious grace to create a kind of cultural aesthetics that fuses Chinese and Western philosophy.
