Documentary about CIUB on YouTube

The opening and the rapid economic development of China has given us more and more opportunities to deal with the interesting history and rich culture of this fascinating country.

In this field, Confucius Institutes act as bridges or platforms promoting mutual understanding in many different ways.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Basel (CIUB) was founded in cooperation with East China Normal University (ECNU) and started operating in September 2013, thus being the first Confucius Institute of the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

Its goal is to provide you with a wide range of projects and activities:
Interesting cultural events give an insight into different aspects of China, stereotypes are put into question and new impulses are developed.
Academic lecture series present results of scientific research and offer a platform for the exchange and transmission of knowledge.
Specialised language courses and teacher formation offer important know-how about the Chinese language and the officially recognised HSK tests are regularly held here.
The library of the institute contains a large quantity of books, lexicons, teaching materials and videos.
We attach great importance to the cooperation with Swiss and Chinese institutions to stimulate a rich intercultural dialogue.

We are looking forward to your visit!
