Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)
HSK is an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Basel is authorised to take HSK tests, which can only be held at certified test centres. The passing of such a test results in an HSK certificate of the respective level (I-VI).

Registration:
- Read through the Test Regulation ( http://www.chinesetest.cn/gotestlaw.do ) very carefully before registering.
- Login on http://www.chinesetest.cn for registration. Upload as required your passport style photo together with your complete and accurate personal information. Your email address used for registration will be the user name for the next logins to review your own information.
- Complete online payment in time (10 days before the test) to ensure your test admission ticket which will be ready online for printing about one week before the test.
- Normally, the registration closes 10 days before the test. And due to the limited facilities we have only limited places for early registrations.
Attention:
On the test day, please make sure you can
- Arrive at least half an hour earlier before your test begins.
- Bring along with you your passport or ID card (the one you used for registration) and the test admission ticket on the test day for admission. The information on them must be identical.
- Have your own earphone/headset ready.

Score report:
Candidates will receive a score report detailing the results of every part of the test.
For level 1-3 test takers, the report can be available (ready and printed out) right after the test.
For level 4-6 test taker, the score reports are only issued about eight weeks after the test date. Usually, candidates can preview their results online about one month after the test. If you want to have your report posted to you, a prepaid large envelop must be handed in before the test. The envelop should be large enough to hold A4 size papers (the test certificate is of A4 size and cannot be folded). Otherwise, you will have to come in person to pick it up at CIUB.
Preparation:
1.HSK test takers’ Handbook, HSK syllabi and sample exams are available online. You can either download the complete exam or use the online exam with the results to evaluate your level.
